Hazem Abdel-Khalek has been a research associate at Fraunhofer IEG since June 2020.

He received his Bachelor's degree in Engineering Physics from the University of Oldenburg and his Master's degree in renewable energy engineering with a focus on energy systems from the University of Freiburg.

Main area of work is sector-coupled energy system modelling with a special focus on hydrogen topics. Since mid 2021, he is one of the core developers of the model PyPSA-Earth. In parallel, he started his PhD exploring the decarbonization pathways and prospects of sustainable hydrogen export in several MENA countries.
