Flexibility Markets, Energy Industry & Regulation

We focus on the regulatory, market, and energy-economic framework conditions for sector-integrated, climate-neutral energy systems. At the core of our projects is the objective and scientifically sound techno-economic assessment and development of sustainable markets, strategies, and business models with regard to macroeconomic efficiency, business viability, and societal acceptance.

A key focus of our work is the analysis and development of innovative methods and models for short-, medium-, and long-term energy price forecasts, as well as for optimizing investment, marketing, and operational strategies for the system-supporting and market-oriented deployment of flexible power generation facilities, grids, storage systems, and consumption units. In our projects, we also focus on deriving and designing appropriate packages of measures for the further development of the regulatory framework, energy market design, and support instruments and incentive systems for the transformation of the energy system—measures that address the increasing electrification, decarbonization, and decentralization of the energy sector, as well as the market-oriented and system-supporting management of generation, storage, and consumption.

Key prerequisites for addressing the aforementioned topics in a scientifically sound and application-oriented manner are our knowledge of the development of energy, capacity, and system services markets, as well as our expertise, data, and models for analyzing wholesale and retail prices and the behavior of flexible market participants in response to defined price signals, tariff models, and incentive systems. We ensure the relevance of our research by incorporating practical experience and needs from the energy sector, economic development, and management consulting into our work.

We place great importance on taking a holistic view and linking the expansion of renewable energy and infrastructure development with economic development, location development, and business attraction management in counties, municipalities, and industrial parks; through our work, we aim to better synchronize these socially relevant topics.
