The Business Area Networks, Energy & Process Engineering combines the competences of Fraunhofer IEG in the areas of "Process Engineering", "Natural Gas, Hydrogen & Material Infrastructures", "Thermodynamic Converters" and "Heat Networks 4.0". With the aim of advancing the transformation process currently taking place in the areas of industry and energy supply, we research and develop sustainable concepts for heat, natural gas and hydrogen. The focus here is on the substitution of fossil primary raw materials and the use of sustainable energy sources, as well as the establishment of technologies that are as climate-neutral as possible in almost all areas of industry. The coupling of sectors is a focus of our work. Starting from meta-level studies and analyses, our research activities penetrate the various detailed levels of industrial and energy systems. Together with our customers and research partners, we design plants ranging from simple test benches to large performance classes, transfer our designs to practical implementation and optimise plant operation. We simulate processes, plants and plant components, design systems and system components on this basis and develop complex control strategies.
